The second staging of Krzysztof Penderecki’s opera buffo (after the Munich world premiere) brings Lech Majewski to the opera world and wins him numerous awards including the Golden Mask for the best production and a Golden Orpheus at the 1994 Warsaw Autumn Festival.

The German tour is hailed by the critics and brings Majewski an invitation to work over there. “Rarely has Penderecki been performed so logically and convincingly. Majewski in his direction has proved a unique musical competence.” writes Armin Friedl. “lt’s a great staging” notes Penderecki.
