JACEK MALCZEWSKI / LECH MAJEWSKI
2024
At the turn of the 20th century, Jacek Malczewski painted Poland – a country that didn’t exist on the map at the time. Its territory was divided between Russia, Austro-Hungary, and Prussia. In a suite of video works commissioned by the National Museum in Poznań, Lech Majewski has asked himself: what would the heroes of Malczewski’s paintings feel if they reached the present day? Would they find their place in the contemporary world? Would they look at us with contempt? How have we changed?
